Abstract

This study presents a thematic analysis of Valli by Sheela Tomy, focusing on environmental degradation, gendered oppression, cultural marginalization, and displacement in the indigenous region of Wayanad, Kerala, which is home to the state's largest Adivasi population. The paper documents the gradual destruction of a once-thriving ecosystem over time, resulting in the erosion of cultural and spiritual connections to the land. The analysis highlights significant loss themes, environmental exploitation, resistance, displacement, and the shared struggles of women. The narrative also explores the interconnectedness of women with nature, drawing on the principles of ecofeminist Vandana Shiva. By tracing these themes, this paper aims to use literature to reclaim suppressed histories and advocate for environmental and social justice.
