Abstract

In the novel Gun Island by Amitav Ghosh, climate change and immigration are intricately woven into the narrative, offering a poignant commentary on the challenges of our contemporary world. The story follows Deen, a rare book dealer, as he embarks on a journey that takes him from the Sundarbans of India to Los Angeles. Key themes include climate change, and the displacement of indigenous communities, all which force individuals, and communities to migrate in search of safer and more sustainable livelihoods. Ghosh underscores the inextricable link between ecological degradation and immigration, emphasizing the urgency of addressing climate change as a driving force behind global population movements. The novel portrays the human struggle to adapt to a rapidly changing environment, highlighting the need for international cooperation and solutions to address both climate change and the challenges of immigration. Gun Island offers a compelling exploration of the interconnectedness of these issues, urging readers to confront the climate change and human consequences of our actions. This paper explores the issues under consideration.
